Aster - Set Up Your Menus

Now that your theme is installed, you're ready to start customizing your theme. If this is your first time setting up menus, check out our how-to guide. If you're feeling confident about how to navigate WordPress menus in general, read on.

The What

Aster comes with three custom menu locations: Right of Header, Left of Header, and Mobile Menu.

If you've imported the demo content, the menus from the demo should automatically get imported and assigned to their proper location. If they didn't or don't look quite right, check under Display location to make sure they're assigned!

The mobile menu will appear only on mobile devices. You must set something here, or you won't have any menu visible on your mobile site!

The How

I recommend naming the menus based on where you want them to appear in relation to the header.

Option 1:

For this header option, assign a menu to the Right of Header location. The ideal number of parent menu items is 4-6 depending on the text-length of your menu items.

Option 2:

For this header option, assign a menu to the Right of Header location and the Left of Header location. The ideal number of parent menu items per side is 3-4 depending on the text-length of your menu items.

Option 3:

For this header option, assign a menu to the Right of Header location. The ideal number of parent menu items is 6-8 depending on the text-length of your menu items.
